The examples above are very task oriented, and while apart of the managers day, do not speak to inspiring teams or individuals.
Leaders do more than perform managerial tasks, they embrace challenge and help teams accomplish difficult goals. Embrace Challenge is one competency I see great leaders embody.
The other competency I admire in leaders are those that make decisions that have a systemic perspective and not short sighted or limited in perspective. A leader has a larger view point and therefore assists in making sure every individual knows hows their contribution fits into the broader organizational mission. They give a person a feeling of purpose.
